My name is George and I am an embedded engineer, DIY hobbyist, and avid diver.

When I was 18, I joined the Marines and left North Carolina.  Over the course of the next 13 years I traveled the world, met my wife, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

I spent the first 3 years in the military trying to get on active duty.  After finally pulling that off, I spent the next two years between California and Iraq.  After two deployments, I decided to try something new.  So I left California for Marine Embassy Duty, where I caught the travel bug.  After living in three countries (and traveling to a couple of others along the way), I decided that it was time to get out of the Marines and go to college.

I moved to Texas with my then girlfriend, enrolled in the University of Texas at Arlington and spent the next 4 years learning about engineering, how to be a civilian, making some of the best friends that I could make, and talking my girlfriend to marrying me.

After graduating, the wife and I decided we wanted to travel before we settled down, so we took a year and roamed the world with nothing but the bags on our backs.  During that time, I worked as a freelance engineer, did some work in the app design field, and learned that I loved to dive.  I even put a “I’d rather be diving” bumper sticker on my pickup when I got back to the USA.

Recently, we have decided to come back to the US so that I could see my family again.  It has been a long time since I was home for more than a week or two, and I felt that it was time to get to know my family again.

So now I am back in North Carolina for the foreseeable future and excited to see what future has in store.  With any luck, I’ll have lots of diving and design engineering to do!
